Did Kinsley REALLY Need a New Bed?
Yes
See back in the spring there was a tiny incident where Kinsley’s bed broke. And I mean broke. We were having a dance party in K’s room when Bobby decided to jump up into the air and he fell hard onto her bed. Dave managed to put the bed back together but in the words of my daughter, “It was never the same.”
Step One
Scour Pinterest for ideas.
I knew what type of bed I wanted Dave to build for Kinsley. Finding a step-by-step plan for what I envisioned was NOT the easiest task to undertake. But obviously, I was up for the challenge!
She loves loft beds. Easy enough.
Now what to put under her bed?
A desk?
A seating area?
A combination of both?
That’s it!
Step 2
Find a blueprint.
Fun Fact – You can buy a TON of DIY plans on Etsy for a minimal price. And I mean minimal.
After some searching, I came across DoitYourSelfPlanner‘s listing. I loved this. Everything about the design was what I wanted DIYDave to build for Kinsley.
Step 3
Spend a small fortune on wood.
Measure (twice), Cut, and Sand. So Much Sanding.
I’m writing this as someone who has never used a sander in her life.
Just call me The Gopher.
And – the one who spends all of our money.
Step 4
Improvise & Customize
We decided Kinsley would enjoy having a larger seating area, so we nixed the desk. Easy enough for DIYDave.
The fabric. All Kinsley.
I’m fairly certain I spent close to $300 at Joann Fabric that day…
Moral of the story – Don’t take your child with you to pick out fabric.
Oh, and I failed to mention earlier – but – at this point Kinsley has NO idea what her bed is going to look like or what the fabric is actually for. So exciting!
Step 5
The finished product.
How cool is her bed???
I would’ve killed to have a bed like this when I was 8 years old. Wouldn’t you?!
And because I know people will ask – her bedding is the Kinsley Collection at Pottery Barn.
The Reaction
Volume must be turned on.
My daughter.
And yes, I realize these are not the most professional looking photos but who has time to stage a child’s room??!

Are you a dog lover?
The obvious answer is, “yes.”
Kinsley is a lover of all animals.
She absolutely loved her bed, except for one aspect of it – The dogs were not able to get up and lay with her.
Once again, #DIYDave took on another project – because he cannot say “no” to her.
Yes, we are in trouble. I’m fully aware of this.
